On the help page at http://service.real.com/contact/help.html?product=games we find the 'Technical Support' telephone number 1-866-597-5510. Could one of you US-based folks ring during the office times of 6:00am - 2:00am PST?
Even better, it appears that one of the moderators, NHernandez, is listed as 'Real Staff'. Maybe one could also ring Real Networks on (206) 674-2700
and ask for N. Hernandez?
With many thanks,
Mike Metcalf |

the Admin at the Players Forum -- NHernandez -- gave his name as Nick Hernandez.this is obviously the same NHernandez who was active in the "RealNetworks Customer Community" (last visited on 2009.Apr.22).
these are the hours i see at http://service.real.com/contact/help.html?product=games --Call Center Hours --M-F 6a-6p PST
Sat-Sun 7:30a-5p PST [ they say "PST" but i suspect they mean "Pacific Time" ] |

They mean Pacific Standard Time, and I gave the (wrong) chat room times.

the Pacific Time Zone (of USA) is near 120 West
and in the winter, it uses PST (=GMT-8)
but during summer, it uses PDT (= GMT-7)
my experience suggests that the stated "PST" is wrong,
that they really mean Pacific Time
we could confirm this by ringing them at5:15a PST = 6:15a PDT = 9:15a EDT = 1:15p GMT my bet is they do answer at such an hour (not yet 6a PST) incidentally the forum clock is about 30 minutes slow,
the time now is about 9:30a GMT |

Pat,
It would be great if you could do that. If you get nowhere with them, it might be worth contacting Hernadez on (206) 239-5600
for some 'insider' advice. After all, he was still listed as a moderator!
Thanks,
Mike Metcalf |

If the Players' forum is axed ....

when we went through the spam attack a few weeks ago I scraped
a snapshot of the entire players forum, so at least the posts can
be resurrected elsewhere, but it would take some thought to
figure out in what form
I'll look into getting the referee set up over here
who is the contact for getting moderator priv? |

Although it seems that the Players' forum is now TOAST, I'm surprised that No one cares about it at RealMedia.
I know that running a forum with no ads from thir point of view is a dead loss ... But think About the precentage of people accessing the forum with ads featrue enabled (using forums instead of boards in the URL) ... A percentage that will be lost as well.
I'm sure that some sudoku forums like this one will be interested in hosting such a database because of the increased number of hits that it will get.
Site administration can be approached for that reason

I contacted Tech Support at 1-866-597-5510. Communication was difficult because of ethnic differences, but I came away with:
1) Real is aware of an ongoing problem, and
2) Real technicians are working on trying to solve it, and
3) Real has no idea how long it will take to resurrect the forum.
I don't plan to hold my breath until it's working again

I'd say I told you so but I cannot.
I did leave there because they have no interest in Sudoku. |
