I've tried Sudoku in my math method class for those future teachers. I asked them to solve easy to medium level soduku games from Gsudokr dot com, and come up with strategies to solve them and think about the math theory behind it. It works well.

Back to the drawing board...

Very Hard game 17792 has 36229 solutions.

This puzzle (Very Hard 22016) has more than 100000 solutions (my solver gives up after 100000).
Code:
. . .|. . .|. . 8
. 6 .|. . .|. . 4
. . 9|. . .|. . 6
-----+-----+-----
. . .|. 8 .|. . 1
3 7 2|1 5 4|6 8 9
8 . .|. 3 .|. . .
-----+-----+-----
9 . .|. . .|1 . .
1 . .|. . .|. 7 .
6 . .|. . .|. . .

Most of the very hard puzzle have redundant clues next to multiple solutions.

Imagine that the digits 1 to 9 are replaced by the letters A to I. What is the maths theory that you're trying to determine?
