Good method!

This one might involve Unique Loops, if that is the approach you chose!
I'm not always sure, when I see a UL, whether it is a Bug-Lite?

wapati, I thought you could use a break from generating puzzles to solving a few. AFAIK, these need more than finned fish to solve some of the single-digit patterns. Enjoy!

Code:
....67.4..7..3..8.1..8......41..982..893.547..674..31......3..8.1..9..3..3.14.... #017
5.7.86...63.4..7.5..43.....27........532.497........32.....23..7.2..3.59...75.6.1 #021
.9..26.5....1....66...53.7.1....9...82.375.19...6....8.1.79...59....4....3.56..9. #022

BTW: Rudd solved your previous puzzle first and spotted the URs. All I really added of value was pointing out that they were concurrent and overlapping.

I solve puzzles every day, but I welcome some challenges, thanks!
The first and third I saw no way to avoid chains.

The second I solved as follows:

Code:

Two String Kite on nines.

.------------------.-------------------.------------------.
| 5     129   7    | 19     8     6    | 124   149   3    |
| 6     3     189  | 4      2     19   | 7     189   5    |
| 189   1289  4    | 3      7     5    | 128   1689  68   |
:------------------+-------------------+------------------:
| 2     7     1689 | 15689  3     189  | 158   168   4    |
| 18    5     3    | 2      16    4    | 9     7     68   |
| 4     189   168-9| 15689 #169   7    | 158   3     2    |
:------------------+------------------+------------------:
| 189   1689  5    | 1689  #1469  2    | 3     48    7    |
| 7     168   2    | 168    146   3    | 48    5     9    |
| 3     4    *89   | 7      5    *89   | 6     2     1    |
'------------------'-------------------'------------------'

Vertical sashimi sword on ones. # sign marks the fins. Fins are true or sword is true.

.------------------.------------------.------------------.
| 5     129   7    | 19    8     6    |#124   149   3    |
| 6     3    *189  | 4     2    *19   | 7     89-1  5    |
| 189   1289  4    | 3     7     5    |#128   1689  68   |
:------------------+------------------+------------------:

| 18    5     3    | 2     16    4    | 9     7     68   |
| 4     189  *168  | 15689 169   7    |*158   3     2    |
:------------------+------------------+------------------:
| 189   1689  5    | 1689  1469  2    | 3     48    7    |
| 7     168   2    | 168   146   3    | 48    5     9    |
| 3     4     89   | 7     5     89   | 6     2     1    |
'------------------'------------------'------------------'

This one is hard to see.  It is a vertical finned sword on nines.
If the fin is true then r2c3 is not 9.  If the sword is true then
r3c12 claim and point. r2c3 is not 9.

| 3     4     89   | 7      5     89   | 6     2     1    |

An xy wing wraps it up.

He may have had your very quick solution, or he may have noted that fins and URs are required for a pattern solution. For sure he could solve it.

Nice going on the second puzzle! An alternate approach to your vertical finned Swordfish on <9> that uses 'claim and point'. (My Franken Fish abilities stink, so this could be wrong.)

Code:
# Franken Swordfish r49b2\c346
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*

A swordfish, and at least four other methods, is how I see this one!

There are many available patterns here. I think 4 is the least needed but getting the right 4 is hard when there are so many! At one point I saw a sashimi swordfish, finned x-wing and a sashimi jellyfish all on 2s and all doing different eliminations. The Jelly was the important one.

Code:
4 . .|. . .|. . 3
. 3 8|. . .|7 6 .
. 6 .|. . .|. 1 .
-----+-----+-----
. 1 .|8 4 6|. 5 .

. . 5|4 . 9|1 . .
. . 1|. 7 .|6 . .

This one is somewhat easy, if you find the short path.

There are MANY paths!
Code:

. 1 .|. 4 7|6 . .
. . 9|. . .|. . 4
. . 8|. . .|. 9 .
-----+-----+-----
7 . .|. . 2|. . .
