Phil,
None of the 100x100 puzles are minimal. In all of them a large number of cells could be removed, but to examine 6000 cells @ 1m per cell takes 100h, which I'm not prepared to invest!

a super-giant puzzle with 144x144 cells (20736 cells) and 7246 cells removed.
