I still did not understand what makes a puzzle interesting to solve (what are the fish names for anyway?) please be patient.

How is that one for example?

Code:
8 . 2|. . 4|. 5 .
. . .|. . .|. . .
7 4 3|. 5 2|. . 6
-----+-----+-----
4 . 1|. . 5|6 7 .
3 . .|. . 6|. 1 .
. . 5|2 . .|9 4 .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|3 . 1|. 6 .
9 . .|5 . .|. . 4
2 3 .|4 . .|. . 5

Or this?

Code:
5 . 2|9 1 8|. . .
9 . 7|. . .|2 . .
. 3 .|7 . .|. 8 .
-----+-----+-----
8 . 3|. 9 .|. . .
. . 1|. . .|8 . .
. 9 .|. . 1|5 . 6
-----+-----+-----
. 1 .|. 4 .|. 7 .
3 . 8|. 7 .|1 4 .
. . .|. 3 2|6 . .

Warning: sudokusolver reports 2 solutions for this one
Is that a No-No?

One more. Good luck!
Code:
5 8 .|. . .|3 . .
. . .|7 . .|. . .
. . 7|. 3 4|. 5 .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|5 7 .|9 . .
. 5 6|. . .|. . .
. . .|9 . .|. . 2
-----+-----+-----
7 . .|. 8 .|. . .
. 3 .|2 . 5|. 4 .
. 2 .|3 . .|. 8 .

PS: I think I found answers to some of my questions here. To the newcomers to these forums, I recommend reading all the stickies in all the forums-- even if the forum does not seem to be about something you are interested in. There is very useful information there.

This one seems to have a little challenge in it. Let me know.

Code:
4 1 .|. . .|8 6 .
. . .|. . .|. . .
. 9 .|6 . 2|. . .
-----+-----+-----
. . 4|. . .|3 . 1
. . .|4 . 5|. 8 .
. . 2|. 6 .|. . .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|. . 8|2. .
9 2 .|1 . .|6 . .
. . 8|. . .|. 5 3

Your 2nd and 3rd puzzles have multiple solutions. They are not considered valid Sudoku puzzles. However, that hasn't prevented people from publishing books/newspapers with such puzzles and getting paid for it.

On the 1st and 4th puzzles, difficulty is subjective. For a manual solver using pencil and paper, they may be considered difficult. For computer solvers, they almost certainly have a low difficulty rating.

You are right about the 3rd puzzle, I probably did a mistake copying it Sad

Does this forum interest more computer solvers or manual solvers?

It's called the Programmers Forum. Take a clue from that! However, there's always an exception to every rule ... and that's why there's a Puzzles sub-forum (that isn't used much anymore).

Your initial post would take volumes to answer, there was no obvious question.

I will answer this as if you had asked:
"What makes a puzzle a "sudoku" and of interest?"

Here I would say, that is 2 questions.

A sudoku puzzle is a grid, 9X9, with enough numbers as givens that
it can be filled in in only one way, and that way has every row and every
column and every box having the digits 1-9 exactly once.

Most would expect that the "givens" display symmetry, some even insist on 180 degree symmetry.

Second part:

Again two parts. <sigh>

Human pencil type solvers only want puzzles they can solve.
Given the range of abilities in human solvers, you cannot please all.
Most would expect that you indicate a rating for the puzzle so that they
won't waste their time on one too hard or easy.

Others want to analyze (with computers I hope!) puzzles to look for odd patterns/features/constraints. You can't please them all either.

There are three main ways to approach solving sudokus.

Patterns. (fish and stuff.)

Colors. (generally covers fish.)

Chains. Most powerful, may not be quickest for human solvers.

Fish names are used to distinguish patterns.
A bit of humor is that the first "fish", the swordfish, was named for
an airplane, not seafood.

Most of us appreciate the humor and perpetuate it.

A valid puzzle must have only one solution.
