Hi all,

I just got a simple question. Is it actually possible for a human to solve a difficult 25X25 sudoku? If it is, how long does it usually take? If I want to devise a very difficult sudoku that even experts will take a very very long time to solve, should I go for a 16X16, 25X 25, or a fancy one such as the butterfly/ samurai?

Thanks a lot guys.

Hi,

I haven't seen anybody solving a 25x25 puzzle. I tried it, entered a few numbers and got bored.

I think a very difficult 9x9 Sudoku is far more interesting since its difficulty does not arise from sheer size, but from "intrinsic" features.

Cheers,
Moritz

I think you're confusing two similar concepts.  If it's possible to solve a hard 25x25 sudoku at all, then of course it's possible for a human to solve it; but whether it's feasible (which I suspect is what you actually meant) is another matter...

I love working on these, they take me a few days but I get them solved. They are the best ones to take to the doctors office, you know you will have something to do the whole time, lol Wink

Don't confuse "difficult" with "time-consuming". A puzzle can be very time-consuming, especially larger grids and multi-grids, but still very easy (mostly lots and lots singles) to solve. And difficult puzzles can be very quickly solved by those who know the necessary advanced techniques. (I still am amazed that the X-wing is considered an advanced technique.)
