Mutate is the common term given to the act of shuffling the numbers, columns, or rows around in a sudoku. Imagine a completed sudoku grid, with all the numbers filled in. You can mutate the puzzle in a number of ways:

- Swap two numbers over (eg, swap the positions of 3's with positions of 6's and vice versa)
- Change round three rows in a floor (eg, you can swap the positions of the top three rows, but only with each other), or three columns in a stack.
