This is reputedly the most difficult puzzle. I certainly wouldn't argue otherwise. It's received a lot of discussion ... particularly in the Sudoku Players' Forum -- of which I'm not a member. So, I'd like to post my solution here if that's okay. (I'm sorry if the notation isn't perfect.)
Code: | Puzzle: 7.....4...2..7..8...3..8..9...5..3...6..2..9...1..7..6...3..9...3..4..6...9..1..5
24 Givens
R9C8 = 3 Hidden Single
B9 = 4 Locked Candidate (1)
r1c3 <> 5 SCE_A (3)
r4c6 <> 9 SCE_A (3)
r5c4 <> 4 SCE_A (3)
r6c5 <> 8 SCE_A (3)
r2c7 = 5 SCE_A (3)
55 additional Naked/Hidden Singles; and 2 additional Locked Candidates (1 & 2)
Solution: 798635421126974583453218679972586314564123897381497256617352948835749162249861735
