|
|
A friend and I are in a controversy - she says that there is more
than one answer to a particular puzzle - I say there is ONLY ONE
answer. The puzzle in ? is one of the five at a time ones. She says that
one of them worked indepedently is one answer, but would not work when the next puzzle in the group of five was worked - therefore two different answers to this puzzle.
Can anyone tell me which of us is correct and why?
Could not find any other place to post this type of question.
Thanks for any help |

Only someone who knows about groups of five puzzles would have any idea what you're talking about. Obviously, one puzzle by itself isn't significant in this scenario. |

If you are talking about 5 puzzles that overlap and trying to solve ONE puzzle of the five while ignoring the others, that should not result in a valid solution.
After all, what are the others for? |

Right, it does, 34 to be exact. However, the original question almost certainly refers to Samurai (or Butterfly) puzzles, where five overlapping puzzles, each of which individually has multiple solutions, have, solved together, only one.

Since this point is getting rather laboured, please consult http://www.samurai-sudoku.com/ for numerous examples.

Theoreticaly a puzzle can have zero, one ore more solutions. But a "correct" puzzle should have only one solution. If you send me your task, I can input it in my program that will find all solutions.
