|
|
Version 0.3 of the Sudoku playing program, SourGumdrop, written in Python is now available free, as source code, and ready to run on a variety of platforms including XP and Linux.
This may be of interest to those looking for a program to play Sudoku and to people wanting to develop their own algorithms.
SourGumdrop gives graphical hints for hidden single, hidden pair, hidden triple, naked single, naked pair, naked triple, naked quads, xwing, swordfish, jellyfish.
The program contains built-in puzzles, can read new puzzles from files in several formats and allows puzzles to be entered by hand.
As well as providing an easily used tool for playing Sudoku it can show how to recognise the common patterns used to solve grids.
Python is an easy language to learn and allows rapid development.
The code is released under the GPL which means you are encouraged to modify it and redistribute it as long as you include the source code and the GPL.
Those wishing to try out new algorithms without having to go through the effort of creating a graphical user interface may find SourGumdrop a very useful starting point. Platform independence is a further attraction.

Version 0.5 of the Sudoku playing program, SourGumdrop, written in Python, is now available free, including the source code, and ready to run on a variety of platforms including XP and Linux. This is a complete rewrite and has a much cleaner user interface and additional functionality.
Previous versions were prototypes written to try out Python. This version is written with the knowledge of the language learnt so far and is much better organised and more clearly coded. So, for those more interested in programming and wishing to try out new algorithms without having to go through the effort of creating a graphical user interface, the SourGumdrop source code may be a useful starting point. Platform independence is a further attraction. Any new versions you create can be freely distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
Google sourgumdrop for details. |

Your creation is pretty ugly, visually.
Solving wise, I strongly suggest that you add skyscraper, much better would be finned x-wing, covering sky and sashimi-x.
I am not a coder, presently. |
