Encounterd it again, same error but when solving a puzzle.
When you place a number in a cell then use undo (both menu and ctrl-Z) to remove it you get the same error (<BP> Blocked for V<N>) when trying to place another number there.

EDIT: error does not occur when you use the right-click clear digit option.

Hi Joey,

The Undo function does not correctly reset the blocking mechanism. I have corrected it in the version that will be released later this week. There are a couple of other improvements that I am putting into it.

Thanks again.

More than happy to help, love your program (obsessive compulsory SudoCue user here *waves*) so I'll gladly report any quirks I find to help you out.

Version 2.0.0 is now available for download.

The new version of SudoCue has so many improvements, that I decided to call it version 2. Learning advanced solving techniques has never been easier than with the great new candidate highlighting. Colors show exactly which candidates form a pattern, and which candidates are eliminated as a result. In addition, the affected houses are also colored, placing the solving step into the right context.

You can select fresh new styles for the user interface. Like a wooden style or marble? Prefer metal to parchment? Try all 8 of them.

Grid size now has 5 predefined settings. This had to be done to fit in the candidate highlighting, but it has the additional advantage that all screen elements (fonts, buttons, cell markings) are better synchronized. No need to try and find a font that fits into the cell size you entered.

3D Medusa coloring expands the power of coloring to multiple digits. 4 new tricks were added to the solver using this power.

Enjoy the new version, and feedback is appreciated as usual.

Ruud

Wow, looking really good there Ruud, very nice update.
The generator seems slower but I guess that is because it adds an aditional check on the grids so I'm not complainging.
Not too high on the framing of the candidates when using the filters. It makes the board seem a bit clutterd, but with the additional help it gives from the Helper I see why it had to be made so.
Love the new helper visualization, very informative and easy to read off.

Thanx for a great Update Ruud!

I have been burning a lot of midnight oil lately to create a new release for SudoCue, the freeware generator, helper and solver for regular Sudoku, Sudoku-X, Windoku, Sudoku-DG, Center-Dot, Asterisk and Clover Sudoku.

These changes were implemented:

• Fetch all daily puzzles from 5 popular websites. (including the daily and weekly competition puzzles from this site)

• Build your own sudoku collections.
- Save in sdm format.
- Paste append
- Paste replace
- Append from other file
- Delete puzzle from file

• New variant implemented: Clover Sudoku (Asterisk + Windoku)

• Improvements in the UI:
- New menu styles
- New Windows visual style support
- More graphics
- Compact mode
- Minimize to system tray

• Version 1.1 of the Framework no longer supported. You need version 2.0
• DLX and Status dialogs removed.

• Performance of generator can be configured by the user.
• Restore Defaults button added to Generator settings.

• More ways to load puzzles into the program:
- Drag & drop puzzle files or strings onto the program.
- Paste strings with multiple puzzles into the program

• Canonicalize a puzzle or an entire puzzle collection.

• Incomplete puzzles (such as the parts of a Samurai) will automatically be partially solved and solved on-the-fly as you progress in the puzzle.

• "Would you like to tell Ruud about this problem?" when an unexpected error pops up.
• several minor improvements and fixes which I forgot to record.

DISCLAIMER: This is a beta version. By installing and using this program you agree to become a voluntary SOFTWARE TESTER.

Download it from the vault: http://www.sudokuvault.com/SudoCueV300.msi

Gimme some feedback if I messed up.

Ruud

It does.

If you do not want to overwrite the existing version, use this installer: http://www.sudokuvault.com/SudoCueV300b.msi. Make sure you choose a different program folder.

Release 3.0.0 is now final. Some minor errors have been fixed.

Last minute additions:

- Open MPQ-Sudoku collections (.sds format)
- Open Perfect Sudoku files containing standard 3x3 Sudoku or Sudoku-X. (.txt)

Congratulations for developing a very fine Sudoku user interface.

I've recently switched from angus' Simple Sudoku to SudoCue in order to color candidates, but find the pencilmarks too light relative to many of the default colors. I've lightened a few of my favorite colors, but I'm wondering ... Is there a way to darken the pencilmarks instead?

Also, is there a way to highlight just the bivalued cells?

Hi Ron, thanks for your comments.

In the next version, I will make the remaining colors user editable. Prepare for a big screen with color settings. There are around 20 colors used by the hint feature, plus the pencilmarks.

SudoCue does not have an option to highlight all the bivalue cells, but I had several requests from Simple Sudoku converts who like this feature, so I will add this option in the next release.

Meanwhile, you can filter on specific number combinations in SudoCue. Click the first filter button and then Shift+Click the second button to highlight all cells which have both numbers in their candidates, or Control+Click the second button to highlight all cells which have either number in their candidates. You can also combine more than 2 numbers this way. I think this is not the feature you're looking for.

I'm glad to hear that.

While those with some color-blindness likely feel differently, I certainly wouldn't ask for customization of the colors used by the hint feature. It's not a screen view that is studied for any length of time.

When finding chains manually, however, one might be staring at colored pencilmarks for quite some time.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.

A new wish: I would like to see an ability to save a few configurations of solving techniques, including techinique ordering. Then, for example, I could jump from "emulate SS" to "superior" to "superior plus", etc. ... with just a few mouse clicks.

Ron,

You can already change the pencilmark color in the options dialog, but due to an error, this change will only take effect the next time you launch SudoCue.

These are the items I'm currently implementing:

- Fix error in LC1-LC2 (done)
- Fix error in tabling (done)
- DLX validator has a higher threshold (done)
- Save game in progress, even if you haven't placed a value yet (done)
- New variants Windoku-X and Clover-X (done)
- New (optional) graphical filter buttons (done)
- New default set of colors and a Restore Default Colors button (done)
- View grid in RN or CN views (in progress)
- Solve upto {level} executes solver steps upto requested level. (to do)

The last item may be close to what you need. It sure is a lot easier for me to implement...

It may take a few more days to finalize the new release. RN & CN views require lots of changes in the GUI.

Thanks, that's somewhat better. However, even with black (#000000) the "little numbers" aren't really all that dark -- probably because of the font (size, etc.)

That should make Denis happy.

For the RN view, will R be on the vertical axis?

For the CN view, will C be on the horizontal axis?
