When I get a pop up on a puzzle that I am copying from the daily newspaper stating that the puzzle is Asymmetrical what does that mean? The puzzle is presented incorrectly or it has more than ONE solution?
Thanks. |

You have not specified which program you are using. There are several Sudoku programs.
But in general:
Most puzzles in newspapers are symmetrical, which means that the pattern of the given numbers has reflectional or rotational symmetry (or both).
When a program warns you that the puzzle you enter is asymmetrical, it does not have to be invalid, but the warning tells you that IF you were entering a symmetrical puzzle, you must have made a mistake.

Thanks for your time.
I didn't think it would make a difference which program I was using. It was one called Simple Sudoku by Angus Johnson. It came with a set of puzzles to work but I choose to enter the numbers from our daily newspaper. After entering the numbers, if I click "start" I see a message on the Status Bar that the puzzle is asymmetrical. This isn't on all puzzles so I wondered what this meant.
I rather assumed it meant there was more than one solution. |
