How about this ... (forgive me if its already been done) ...

25 5x5 grids each containing the letters of the alphabet, except 1 (i.e. A-Y)

Same rules as Sudoku, except add this into the equation. Whatever letter is left out of a grid must be used in all of the other grids.

In other words if grid 1 contains A-Y then Grids 2 - 25 must contain Z. This rule may make the puzzle unsolvable ... the math on this is making my head spin ... have I created a monster?

If each row and column has this rule as well, then it would be a bit easier. This will also mean that 1 letter is in every grid - maybe this could be the letter that you have to give as the puzzle "soluution key" instead of typing the whole bloody thing out.

I was thinking about this since I posted it and yes, you're right. Each row and each column would have the same rule as each 5x5 grid.

Although single letter could be the solution key, it would still be quite difficult.

Hmm...

In 0 to 9 Number Place, each row, column, and region has all 10 digits. Some cells contain two digits, and those are marked. The same puzzle where the two-digit cells didn't get marked would probably be much more difficult than a regular Sudoku puzzle.

Maybe something like that?

What a great link. With all of the variants described, my variant is really nothing more than that ... a variant. But what a variant!

You might also want to take a look at my "pseudoku" puzzles at cerrillos dot org. The 5 post limit is stupid.
