I have recently discovered Sudokus and have become somewhat hooked. At the moment I am doing a teaching course which is keen on specialising and generalising and I was wondering whether it would be possible to make a generalisation for sudokus? Thanks for your help.

There's not a formula though the problem statement is an Exact Cover problem.

I made a paper with a syntax based on the set theory which i then used to display all solving criteria which i know... maybe you want to check it out.

the solver where i implemented the methods will be online soon.
i'ld like to collect more techniques and add them to the paper.

please note that its a first draft, if you find mistakes please tell me.

You might want to check out the following site

http://www.geometer.org/mathcircles/

Tom Davis has written a number of relevant papers including "The Mathematics of Sudoku" which is about half way down the page under the heading "Miscellaneous"
