It's been almost a year since I released my open source C# Sudoku solver (http://www.humble-programmer.com/bb_sudoku.htm) so it's time for another Humble Programmer holiday gift. This year's freeware present for all of you is SuPDF, which can be downloaded from my web site at http://www.humble-programmer.com/sw_supdf.htm.

SuPDF is a small Windows application that creates a one page PDF document for saving or printing out Sudoku puzzles. The values for the Sudoku puzzle are entered as a text string, and SuPDF will format the result, adding pencil marks or printing the solution, depending on your selection. SuPDF doesn't actually generate puzzles, but it will check them for correctness, i.e., make sure there is a single unique solution; it will also print the solution for valid Sudoku puzzles, if desired. It offers a variety of output grids, and each PDF file can contain a single grid, or any two of the following:

Starting Grid -- just the givens
Working Grid -- givens and gridlines for pencil marks
Pencil Marks -- givens and preset pencil marks
Solution -- givens and solved values
Blank Grid -- a bunch of lines and squares

SuPDF is specifically designed to turn Sudoku puzzles posted here--or elsewhere on the Wild Wild Web--into neat, one page printouts for those of us who still use pencil and paper. (SuPDF was indirectly inspired by wapati's excellent puzzles, which have helped me happily waste hours of time over the past year.) You will need v2.0 (or better) of Microsoft's .NET Framework to run it, as well as Adobe's Reader software to view the PDF files. Both of these are also free, and there are download links to them on the SuPDF page at www.humble-programmer.com.

I hope you enjoy SuPDF, and that you and yours have a Happy Thankgiving as well!
