Hi I have written a solver program and generator program in QBasic, which has been complied. The programs employ the following solving techniques:
2 types of box/line interactions
pairs
triples
x-wings
You will find them here:

I uploaded the latest versions of these programs a couple of days ago, along with a program that steps through the solutions to puzzles.
they now employ the following techniques:
2 types of box/line eliminations (aka locked candidates)
pairs
triples
quads
x-wings
xy-wings
*edit* now with swordfish and jellyfish too *edit*
The puzzle generator is a bit slower now it can take up to 90 seconds, but usually takes about 40. I ran it 100 times and it generated 8 hard puzzles (needing pairs and/or locked candidates) and 7 very hard puzzles (mostly needing xy-wings although one could be solved with x wings). It usually finds easy or intermediate puzzles that can be solved with singles. |
