Consider the following puzzle:
*-----------*
|.2.|7..|.8.|
|6..|...|5.3|
|.9.|3..|...|
|---+---+---|
|...|.4.|3.6|
|...|6.5|...|
|7.4|.1.|...|
|---+---+---|
|...|..4|.7.|
|5.2|...|..9|
|.1.|..9|.2.|
*-----------*

Reaching the following position, the program gives a hint that says there are locked candidate(s) and highlights 189 and 1839 (see the asterisks below) but there is no way to determine which of the 9s is to be "made". This is using the current version 4.1z. I can of course try either of the 9s and once the correct 9 is made then the puzzle collapses easily. Why is the hint incorrect?

*-----------*
|.2.|7..|.8.|
|67.|4.2|5.3|
|49.|3..|.6.|
|---+---+---|
|.5.|.47|3.6|
|...|6.5|.4.|
|764|.13|.5.|
|---+---+---|
|9.6|..4|.7.|
|542|.7.|.39|
|.17|..9|.2.|
*-----------*

*--------------------------------------------------------------------*
| 13 2 135 | 7 569 16 | 149 8 14 |
| 6 7 18 | 4 89 2 | 5 19 3 |
| 4 9 158 | 3 58 18 | 27 6 27 |
|----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
| 128 5 189* | 289 4 7 | 3 19 6 |
| 1238 38 1389* | 6 28 5 | 12789 4 1278 |
| 7 6 4 | 289 1 3 | 289 5 28 |
|----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
| 9 38 6 | 1258 238 4 | 18 7 158 |
| 5 4 2 | 18 7 68 | 168 3 9 |
| 38 1 7 | 58 368 9 | 468 2 458 |
*--------------------------------------------------------------------*

The hint isn't wrong.

Somehow, you've mistakenly presumed that the filtering is on the 9 digit. If you look at the filter buttons along the top of Simple Sudoku you'll notice that the 8 filter button is depressed, not the 9 filter button. Consequently, the hint is correctly indicating that the 8 candidates in the highlighted cells can be removed.

Sorry, I figured out my mistake a few moments after posting. I apologize for the wasted time, etc.
