Friends
Not sure where to post my Q so please bear with me if I am in the wrong slot.
I have been using the Simple Sudoku program for some time and really like it. But there is one feature that I am missing. That is, I like to look at each block of 3x3 boxes and insert possible candidates one by one. That way I can just eliminate stuff from that box only, before looking at the whole picture.
Is there a free program where you can do that?
Thanks

My solver allows you to enter in the candidates by hand, but also has the option to automate this process as I think most find it tedious to mark candidates in this way. The automation will only delete the obvious candidates from the row, column or box, so it does not stop you from making mistakes or deleting extra candidates you find by hand.
You can try it if you wish, its at the bottom of this page (Ubuntu and Windows versions):

There were problems with my site yesterday when I accidentally reset the file permissions, but hopefully I have it fixed now.
I am sure many other solvers would allow you to set candidates by hand, but I use only my own, so I can not offer advise on which might meet your requirements.
