I was solving my first extreme puzzle on Simple Sudoku and made it here:

Code:
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 124   3     1247  | 9     15    8     | 1457  6     157   |
 | 19    17    6     | 157   4     3     | 2     579   8     |
 | 8     5     1479  | 17    6     2     | 147   3     179   |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 7     124   1459  | 3     159   6     | 15    8     1259  |
 | 1569  126   3     | 15    8     7     | 156   4     1259  |
 | 1569  8     159   | 2     159   4     | 1567  579   3     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 1456  146   145   | 8     7     9     | 3     2     46    |
 | 3     67    8     | 4     2     1     | 9     57    567   |
 | 24    9     247   | 6     3     5     | 8     1     47    |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

I decided to use coloring on nines, to get this:

Fine, we can exclude the nine in R6C3, giving me:

I noticed that if the nines were truly green, then that would leave box five devoid of a nine. Thus, the nines are cyan, which quickly gave way to a solution by elementary methods. I wouldn't consider myself qualified to play puzzles of this difficulty (as stated, this was my *first* solved extreme in SS), as I don't know how to do swordfish, XY-wings, or practically anything more advanced than coloring.

Is this some new technique? Or is it one case of a more difficult technique? After solving it I went back and Simple Sudoku suggested I use multicoloring on sevens, like so:

I haven't grokked multicoloring yet, but surely it's more difficult than the technique I just used.

No, while it was well spotted it's not new.

This is an example of either/both what I'd call a type 3 simple-color
( http://www.setbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=1562&mforum=sudoku#1562 ) and a type 1 multi-color pattern( http://www.setbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=2575&mforum=sudoku#2575 ).
