Anon17 was in communication with Gordon Royle some time back and he "sort of" explained his methods.
Given that gsf tried exceedingly hard with multiple processors over a long period - and still didnt find the 325 that were out there - it remains possible/probable that there are others as yet undiscovered.
If we were to start the whole process again and were able to generate the same 49151 17-puzzles this would be an indication that we were close to closure.
Given the timing of the post I suspect that anon17 has maybe done this a couple of times !

I lost the grid for ~6 weeks
the search re-started on 64 processors last week
in that time 75103 17s were generated,
24797 were essentially different
all were already in the catalog |
