An interesting conversation on the players forum revealed a bug in the Sudo Cue solver.

This has now been fixed. Other fixes include a timing error when the analyzer is visible when a new puzzle is loaded. The analyzer is now correctly updated.

More spectacular extensions are planned for the next release. I'm almost done with the very promising constraint subset technique. I do want to run a couple of serious tests before releasing it.

A new version 1.1.4 of Sudo Cue is available for download.

The compatibility issues with version 2.0 of the dot-net framework have been sorted out. The program should install and run smoothly with both versions of the framework.

The error in generating new random puzzles has been fixed.

To download version 1.1.4, click the link in my signature.

A new version 1.1.5 of Sudo Cue is available for download.

Several user wishes have been implemented. Amongst these are:

- Save progress in a separate file. Filled values and eliminated candidates are saved in this format.
- Paste candidate grids into the program.
- Print a hardcopy of the puzzle.
- Copy puzzle with alle visible tools to an image, either copy to clipboard or save into a JPG file.
- Markers can be turned ON or OFF when starting a puzzle. Automatic correction of candidate markers can be turned off, allowing you to create your very own mess.
- Program can do a version check at the "About" window.
- Program can mass-classify puzzles in collection files.

To download this version, click the link in my signature.

For those checking for updates:

Sudo Cue has moved to a new site: http://www.sudocue.net

The old site will be supported for some time, but I will have it refer to the new site.

Please update your links.

Thanks,

Ruud.

Version 1.1.6 of Sudo Cue is available since December 27.

Changes include:

- Support links updated to new website.

- More hints available. Single hint for patterns that eliminate multiple candidates. Hint system recognizes when you found these pattens.

- Latest Daily Sudoku Nightmare can be opened with a menu option. No need to visit my website on a daily basis.

- Fixed a bug in clipboard handling.

Version 1.1.7 of Sudo Cue is now available for download. A few minor improvements have been implemented.

This version can be downloaded here. Release notes are also present.

If you have any wishes for the next version, please post them at the Sudo Cue user forum. If you think I should keep the program as it is and not add any modifications or new features, you can also let me know. Wink

The coding of version 1.2.0 is ready.

This release of SudoCue has the following changes:

3 new solving techniques implemented (BUG, XYZ-Wing, Finned X-Wing)
Puzzle ratings based on realistic search time and techniques used
Extended analyzer dialog with ratings per move
New 'Peers' tool to check for naked singles
Markup can be combined with 'watch' and 'color' tools
2 pens used in stead of pen and pencil (to avoid confusion with pencilmarks)
Scramble tool to create a new mathematically equivalent sudoku
Minor bug fixes

Because there are quite a few changes, a beta testing period will start shortly.

If you want to be a beta tester for this release, then drop me a Private Message, and I will tell you where you can find this beta version.

Version 1.2.0 of SudoCue is now available for download.

See my previous post for the list of changes.

A few bugs were detected and fixed. Thanks to the testers.

This version also allows you to highlight multiple digits. Shift-click additional numbers to highlight all cells where ANY of the selected numbers is a candidate, control-click to highlight all cells where ALL selected numbers are a candidate.

As always, download it at http://www.sudocue.net

SudoCue requires .Net framework version 1.1 or 2.0 for Windows.

SudoCue is freeware. No fees, no sneaky adware is installed with it. There are no limitations or trial periods, and no "de luxe" version that you need to pay for. Please notice the new "Donate" button on my website Wink

Version 1.4.0 is available now.

Some comments by users have been put to good use and implemented as new features. Read the release notes for full details.

Each 'trick' is now user configurable. The order of tricks can also be changed by the user, and you can modify the score for each trick that goes into the puzzle rating. You can even set a minimum rating for each trick. There are 43 'tricks' that you can configure this way.

I have added some special single tricks that you can rate differently.

- a house (row, column, box) with 8 cells filled: Full House
- a digit with 8 instances already placed: Last Digit
- a hidden single in multiple houses: Mixed Single
- a hidden single revealed by a single pair of locked candidates: Unlocked single

Also, Locked candidates are split in 4 different ways:
- Naked pair in the intersection: locked pair
- Naked triple in the intersection: locked triple
- Eliminations in row/column: locked candidates 1
- Eliminations in box: locked candidates 2

All of these sub-techniques allow you to fine-tune difficulty of puzzles in the lower ranges.

cheers,
Ruud

Release 1.5.0 is out now. I edited the original post accordingly.

My obsession with sudoku variants has now finally had an impact on the SudoCue software. 3 variations have been implemented, the program is ready to accept more in the future.

- Sudoku-X
- Windoku
- Disjoint Groups

For more info, read this: http://www.sudocue.net/releasenotes.php

Does the optimizer use your solver settings?

It is pretty useless if it does not, and my many version tries, well...it does not.

Hi Fermat,

this issue has been reported by another user. I will fix it before the next release comes out. The solver settings are always used, but you need to be able to select a maximum difficulty level when performing an optimization.

Hi there Ruud! Thanx for an awesome program, been testing out several different ones and I really like the coustomizability of yours.

I only have one problem with the program. It is when I want to manually create new sudokus. When I enter a digit, say 4, in a square and then decide I don't want it there, use 0 or Del to remove it I can't place another digit there. I can place a 4 there but no other digit, I get the "<board> is reserved for V<whatever>" warning. This is on a completly empty board with no other given numbers set. Is this a setting of sorts or am I doing something wrong?
The version of Sudo Cue I have is 1.5.1.2 .

Hi Joey,

thanks for your kind comments.

I fixed the error you reported. You can now make any corrections you like in setup mode, even overwrite an existing digit.

The new version is 1.5.1.3.

cheers,
Ruud
