Schmudoku!

*** Well, I wanted to put the link to my Java applet here, but it won't let me. Let's try this... go to: ics4m dot ufacademy dot org slash Schmudoku ***

It's just a simple Sudoku generator and solver. I was going for a clean, web-based interface with high readability/usability. It has three logic-based strategies and a backtracker that it uses to generate and rate puzzles at 6 difficulty levels.

Comments/criticisms are very welcome.

It can recognize non-unique solutions and unsolvable puzzles.

Solver supports markups (right-click).

Enter your own puzzle and "lock" it in to rate it.

Undo and redo for the last 200 moves.

Contains on-board help and general info from Wikipedia.

Known visual bug on Macs (cuts off right hand column). Will fix soon...

- Type of software: Generator, solver
- Name of the application: Schmudoku!
- Version number: Engine - 4.3, Interface - 1.0
- Platform independent (known bug in Mac interface - sorry)
- Special requirements: None

- Programming language: Java 1.4 (engine originally written in Turing and then translated)
- Source code: Eventually will be available on request

Sheeps, I threw out a Turing textbook 4 years ago when I moved. The dust was wham!

Pascal is stiff, as is Turing.

There are many c, c+, c++ and c#(maybe) compilers for free.

You have your algorithms, I'd say start over.

Are you aware that pascal <turing> is from the dawn?

Turing is better than fortran and cobol. -shows my age that I know that-

My dad did the switches, I did the cards, you can do .... ?

Thanks for the tip, buddy.

If you read my message more carefully, you'll see that the program is written in Java, not Turing. I am aware that there are C compilers for free, and I am aware that Pascal is an old language. Turing was actually developed after C and C++, and is still used as a teaching language in some secondary schools - were you aware of that?

My reason for writing the engine in Turing originally was simply to brush up on my Turing. I recently started teaching at a school where they were us ing Turing (but I switched my school's program over to Java after a year).
