hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has 9x9-sudoku-grids where you can use a squirmbag or an N-gonk of N > 5 .
Maybe these types of x-wing are impossible in classic sudokus, then I won't bother making them in my solver ...

Hi,

X-Wing, Swordfish, etc. always have a complement, like disjoint subsets. When you find a Squirmbag (N=5) in the rows, and all 9 positions for the digit are unbound, you will also find a Jellyfish (N=4) in the columns.

It depends on the search method you use, but N= 2 to 4 should find everything in a 9x9 sudoku.

Ruud.
